Airing on December 3, 1968, The ’68 Comeback Special, then titled simply Elvis, was the King’s first live TV performance after seven years out of the spotlight. The special’s soundtrack album made Top 10 Album charts nationwide, and just months later, Elvis was back at the top of singles charts with hits “In the Ghetto” and “Suspicious Minds.”
NBC is celebrating the golden anniversary of the special television moment with The 50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special. The two-hour special will feature performances of Elvis’ greatest songs by music stars and will additionally showcase rare footage, outtakes, and interviews from those involved in the original show, including director Steve Binder.
