ABG and Julius Erving Enter into Strategic Partnership

to Develop the Dr. J Brand and Engage New Audiences

Authentic Brands Group (ABG) announced today a strategic partnership with Julius “Dr. J” Erving to own and manage the intellectual property of one of the most dominant and influential basketball players in sports history. Julius Erving joins Shaquille O’Neal as the second NBA Hall of Famer and active Celebrity & Entertainment brand to be owned and represented by ABG.

“We are honored to welcome such a distinguished and esteemed figure in basketball to the ABG family,” said Jamie Salter, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ABG. “Dr. J is a living legend whose legacy goes well beyond the game and we see a real opportunity to build this brand for multiple generations.”

“I am thrilled to join the ABG team to preserve my legacy and grow my brand,” said Julius Erving. “I consider it a personal mission to use my influence to make a difference in people’s lives and look forward to working with the team to find new and innovative ways to reach my fans and engage with new audiences.”

“I am in awe of the OG dunk champion,” said Shaquille O’Neal. “Dr. J was a basketball innovator, far ahead of his time. He is one of my most important role models both on and off the court, and the reason that I am a First Ballot Hall of Famer.”

Julius Erving was the dominant player of his era, a leader who changed the way the game was played. ABG will collaborate with Erving on the development and global expansion of the Dr. J brand, pursuing strategic collaborations and long-term partnerships that will provide a platform to reach new markets and ignite the legacy of Dr. J.

“Dr. J was the first basketball player to be connected with global consumer brands,” said Nick Woodhouse, President and Chief Marketing Officer of ABG. “His most notable endorsements span Coca-Cola to Colgate to Converse. We are excited to pick up that mantle and continue his legacy in consumer brands as well as foraying into luxury, travel and corporate sponsorships.”
